Maggot Brain & A Clockworck Orange

What I listened to this morning: Maggot Brain, by Funkadelic

Yeah, it's great. Eddie Hazel's solo on the title track is bodacious. "Super Stupid" should be a rock standard. Everything else is just stone cold funky shit.

What I'm Watching: A Clockwork Orange, directed by Stanley Kubrick

This I'm less thrilled about. I don't know what it is about Kubrick, but for some reason his films just put me off. I've only seen The Shining and A Clockwork Orange, which are both based off of books I love, but his adaptations for some reason are off-putting for me. The Shining was SO DIFFERENT from the book it was upsetting, and can I be honest and say it wasn't that scary? ON A BRIEF TANGENT have you ever noticed that old horror movies just aren't scary? I love old film, it's not like I have any problem with old movies, it's just compared to the movies coming out today, the gore, the shocks, they all seem so timid compared to what's coming out today. Like in the original Night of the Living Dead, the goriest part is either when the little girl stabs her mom with a trowel, or the close up on a Zombie munching on a bone. Too bad the camera cuts away from the abdomen stabbing, and the bone looks suspiciously like a turkey bone... Granted there were some creepy moments, but even creepy is too strong of a word. Maybe just eerie. But anyway, back to a Clockwork Orange. In this case, the story benefits from the fact that the language spoken by the teenage characters is so intense and different the first few pages of the book make no sense. In the movie, the language had to be stifled a little bit so people could understand what was going on, but this removes some of the power of the speech in the story. But honestly, I'm only half way through, so things may change.

Also, I watched the Godfather this weekend, and holy crap Al Pacino has gotten extremely wrinkly ion his old age. He's barely recognizable in The Godfather.

I know no one will ever read this...

Yeah, I'm aware that no one is ever going to read this blog, and you know what? I don't care. Maybe two people will read this. I hope I make those two people happy. Or mad. Or I just affect them in some way.
